If you have questions or concerns not answered by this FAQ section please feel free to Contact Us. We will return your call as soon as possible.

Are exams or competitions mandatory?

All students ages 5+ in a ballet, jazz or tap class will be invited to participate in an examination with their class. This is a wonderful opportunity for each to receive feedback from a professional examiner. All exam material is taught in class and each student will be well prepared for this wonderful experience. Upon completion of the examination, each student will receive an individual adjudication sheet as well as a certificate of completion or a medal depending on the grade being studied. This is such a worthwhile experience and we are so pleased to offer this to you. The examination will cost $40 per exam and will be charged along with your costume fees on November 15. Examinations traditionally take place sometime in February or March. You can opt out of the examination process by emailing us before November 15th and letting us know.

Are tuition fees for the month or for the whole year?

All of our tuition fees are shown and charged per month. The only exception is forour 8, 10 or 12 week (sessional) programs which are paid as a one time fee for the entire session.

Can I watch my child during class time?

If your child is participating in private lessons you can make pre-arrangements with your child’s instructor to sit in on their lesson.

Sessional classes will have a parent viewing week during the last week of classes.

If your child is participating in group lessons you will be able to view your child’s lesson through our secure viewing app if you are on the Gold Package.

Group classes will also have parent viewing week each year so that families can see what we are learning in class and we can practice our performance skills!

Please note for Preschool parents – you will be allowed to come into the room until your child feels comfortable with us and the other students. After that, we ask that you wait outside until class is done. Our program’s goal is to foster independence and prepare students for other independent activities such as kindergarten. Thank you for your understanding in advance. We do have some parented programs available for students who are not quite ready for an independent activity.

Can I withdraw my child from classes after they begin?

Withdrawal will only be accepted on the following two dates: October 15 and February 1. All withdrawals must be done in writing by sending an email to dance@summitschoolofdance.com requesting the withdrawal link. Your withdrawal will not be official until we receive this form back. We do not take withdrawals from 8, 10 or 12-week programs.

If you decide to withdraw from the studio your Year End Recital Costume, as well as attire are non-refundable. If you withdraw from the studio after costumes have been ordered you may receive a different costume than was shown to you.

No refunds will be given for dance/music lessons. Summit School of Dance and Music reserves the right to terminate lessons to any student without notice. In such a case a refund for unused lessons will be given.

Do you require us to volunteer during the year?

The only time that you will be asked to volunteer is during our Recital. We do need help backstage to supervise your child’s class. You can choose not to volunteer but we do have a 2 person minimum for all of our preschool classes and 1 person minimum for the remainder of our classes. You will not have to purchase a ticket for the recital for yourself as you will get to watch your child backstage with us. Please understand that we do need your help we can not do this on our own. Due to us wanting to ensure that your children have enough supervision if we do not get adequate volunteers for classes they will unfortunately not be able to participate in the show.

How do I pay for my child’s classes?

Tuition must be paid by credit card payment set up through our automatic payment system upon registration. Payments will be deducted automatically on the 25th of each month.

What does my child need to wear when attending classes?

Each class has different dress code. This information is available on the Dance Dress Code page.

When do we start classes?

Our programs are ongoing from September – June. If you are registering mid-year you can begin right away! As soon as you have received your confirmation email you are free to start your class on the next appropriate day.

Will there be a year-end recital?

Our recitals are the perfect venue for you or your child to show family and friends the results of months of learning and practice. Our recitals are organized and designed to eliminate “stage fright” and help performers build self-esteem. At our dance recitals, students get exposed to a variety of new styles that they may have never realized existed. The recitals help students stay motivated, encouraged and interested in seeing the progress of their peers. Our dance recitals are an entertaining event for parents, grandparents, neighbours and the other dancers waiting to perform backstage.

Tickets for the recital are $25 and you are conveniently able to purchase tickets online eliminating the hassle of having to line up at the studio on specifically assigned days.

The Recital is not mandatory, you can opt out of participating. Please email us by November 15th letting us know that you are choosing not to participate. If you register after this date, please inform us before March 15 if you are not participating in recital. Please understand that if we receive this notice we will not charge you for your (dance) recital costume but we will also not be able to get you a costume if you change your mind in the future.

Recording of the Recital: If you choose to be a part of our Gold Package, you will receive a recording of the recital which will be emailed to over the summer. If you choose our Silver Package, recordings will be available for purchase for the reasonable price of $30+gst. We know other studios are charging between $50 – $150 for the recording of the recital which just isn’t realistic for most families, we get it! We are so excited to be able to offer this method to you. We hope that you will take advantage of this and really sit back and enjoy the show! Put your cameras and phones away and watch your child’s amazing performance right in front of you!

Recital Costume Fees:
Any students choosing to participate will join their class in a recital number. This opportunity is given to all students so they can show off their progress over the past months. Each recital dance will have a costume for their number. This makes each of the students feel very special along with giving them something to work towards.

The following is a list of what your child’s year-end (dance) recital costume will be costing. Your child will be measured during class time in November and then their costume will be ordered arriving ready to wear sometime in May.

Your Year-End Recital Costume will automatically be charged to your account on November 15 (or March 15 if you are registering after this date). Please email us prior to November 15 if you are wanting to opt out of recital.
Preschool, Angelina, Funky Feet – $80.00+gst
All Primary/Jr levels – $90.00+gst
Inter/Teen Levels – $100.00+gst

Wow $25.00 seems like a lot for a ticket, why so much?

In a recent survey of dance and music studios in the area, ticket prices range from $25 – $45 per ticket and DVD’s range from $50 – $150. As you can see we are on the low end of these figures and will keep our prices as low as possible for as long as we can.

Funds collected from ticket sales go to many, many things. Here are a few examples of what ticket revenues pay for:

We pay a premium just for the use of the space.

We pay for each technician that is there to make sure our show runs smoothly (stage manager, lighting technician, sound technician, janitorial staff)

We pay each of Summit’s staff for their time

Food for all of these people

Printing and design of our programs

Ticketing website and additional credit card processing charges

We could go on but we hope that you understand that putting on a show of this magnitude takes hours of work and significant investment. Considering these factors and what other studios in the city are charging we feel our prices are more than reasonable.
