If you have questions or concerns not answered by this FAQ section please feel free to Contact Us. We will return your call as soon as possible.

Are tuition fees for the month or for the whole year?

All of our tuition fees are shown and charged per month. The only exception is for our 8, 10 or 12 week (sessional) programs which are paid as a one time fee for the entire session.

Can I watch my child during class time?

If your child is participating in private lessons you can make pre-arrangements with your child’s instructor to sit in on their lesson.

Sessional classes will have a parent viewing week during the last week of classes.

If your child is participating in group lessons you will be able to view your child’s lesson through our secure viewing app if you are on the Gold Package.

Group classes will also have parent viewing week each year so that families can see what we are learning in class and we can practice our performance skills!

Please note for Preschool parents – you will be allowed to come into the room until your child feels comfortable with us and the other students. After that, we ask that you wait outside until class is done. Our program’s goal is to foster independence and prepare students for other independent activities such as kindergarten. Thank you for your understanding in advance. We do have some parented programs available for students who are not quite ready for an independent activity.

Can I withdraw my child from classes after they begin?

Withdrawal will only be accepted on the following two dates: October 15 and February 1. All withdrawals must be done in writing by sending an email to dance@summitschoolofdance.com requesting the withdrawal link. Your withdrawal will not be official until we receive this form back. We do not take withdrawals from 8, 10 or 12-week programs.

If you decide to withdraw from the studio your Year End Recital Costume, as well as attire are non-refundable. If you withdraw from the studio after costumes have been ordered you may receive a different costume than was shown to you.

No refunds will be given for dance/music lessons. Summit School of Dance and Music reserves the right to terminate lessons to any student without notice. In such a case a refund for unused lessons will be given.

Do I need a piano at home to take piano lessons?

It is ideal if you do have a piano at home, but you can start lessons with our piano teachers by using an electric keyboard to practice on. Most of our students rent or buy small electric keyboards practice on at home. We recommend a keyboard that has regular sized keys and a touch sensitive response. A touch sensitive keyboard means if you press a key harder it will play louder and if you press a key softer it will play quieter.

How do I pay for my child’s classes?

All of our tuition fees are shown and charged per month. The only exception is for our 8, 10 or 12 week (sessional) programs which are paid as a one time fee for the entire session.

How long does it take to learn an instrument?

There is no set answer of how long it takes to learn an instrument. With regular practice, a basic level of playing can be accomplished in a few months. Most of our students take lessons on a long-term basis because they want to be constantly improving and they find the lessons enjoyable.

I don’t have any musical background or ability; can I still help my child practice?

Yes. Even if you don’t have a musical background you can ask the teacher for advice on how to help your child practice. By simply monitoring that they are doing exercises a certain number of times per day the student will progress. Many parents occasionally sit in on their child’s music lesson to get an idea of the proper way a song should sound or how the student should be positioning their hands.

What if my child misses a lesson/class? Are there make up lessons available?

Music students will receive 2 group makeup classes per year to compensate students for any missed classes. No compensation is provided to missed grouped lessons.

When do we start classes?

Our programs are ongoing from September – June. If you are registering mid-year you can begin right away! As soon as you have received your confirmation email you are free to start your class on the next appropriate day.

Wow $25.00 seems like a lot for a ticket, why so much?

In a recent survey of dance and music studios in the area, ticket prices range from $25 – $45 per ticket and DVD’s range from $50 – $150. As you can see we are on the low end of these figures and will keep our prices as low as possible for as long as we can.

Funds collected from ticket sales go to many, many things. Here are a few examples of what ticket revenues pay for:

We pay a premium just for the use of the space.

We pay for each technician that is there to make sure our show runs smoothly (stage manager, lighting technician, sound technician, janitorial staff)

We pay each of Summit’s staff for their time

Food for all of these people

Printing and design of our programs

Ticketing website and additional credit card processing charges

We could go on but we hope that you understand that putting on a show of this magnitude takes hours of work and significant investment. Considering these factors and what other studios in the city are charging we feel our prices are more than reasonable.
